The Dakota & Iowa Railroad is a scenic 138 mile shortline operating over former Milwaukee Road trackage. This fascinating rail line is owned by LG Everist, Inc. and begins at their large sand and rock quarry in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. The other was the Chicago, Milwaukee & Saint Paul Railroad (the Milwaukee Road). These railroads built tracks and brought new settlers.
